The Highest Bank in the World

On September 9, 2025, HSBC opened a new branch in Hong Kong… and set a new world record. Located on the 99th floor of the International Commerce Centre (ICC)—Hong Kong’s tallest building—the HSBC ICC Premier Elite Wealth Centre became the highest bank in the world.

Although it is not the highest bank in the world relative to sea level, HSBC’s ICC branch is the highest relative to the ground, sitting 388 metres (1,273 feet) above the ground. Spanning 23,000 square feet, it is also HSBC’s largest wealth management facility globally.

Designed for high-net-worth individuals, the ICC branch combines banking infrastructure with luxury lifestyle spaces that one would not immediately associate with banking operations. These include a sky-high lounge offering Michelin-level culinary partnerships, an integrated wellness clinic, and two large banquet halls.

Incidentally, the International Commerce Centre has been the theatre for multiple other world records. As of 2026, OZONE, located on the 118th floor of the ICC, still holds the record for the highest bar in the world. Likewise, the swimming pool, which shares the 118th floor with OZONE at 468.8 metres (1,538 feet) above ground, is still recognized as the highest swimming pool in the world.

However, the ICC has also lost previously held records. At launch, for instance, the Ritz-Carlton, occupying floors 102 through 118, was the highest hotel in the world, featuring its lobby at 425 metres (1,395 feet) above the ground.
