Traveling from any Western city to Hong Kong may seem long. Flying from Los Angeles, USA, to Hong Kong, for instance, will take you fifteen hours; from London, UK, to Hong Kong, will take you the better part of thirteen hours; and from Sydney, Australia, to Hong Kong, nearly ten hours.

Yet, the furthest city from Hong Kong is not to be found in the West but in South America—more specifically, in Bolivia. Located about 19,900 kilometers (12,350 miles) from Hong Kong, the city of Tarija, Bolivia, is officially the furthest city from Hong Kong.

To put the distance between Tarija and Hong Kong in perspective, New York City, USA, is only 13,000 kilometers (8,000 miles) from Hong Kong; and London, UK, is only 9,600 kilometers (6,000 miles) away.

Flying from Tarija to Hong Kong will take nearly two full days, as there are no direct flights connecting the two cities. In fact, the longest flight in the world, connecting New York City to Singapore, is 4,500 kilometers (2,800 miles) shorter than the distance separating Tarija from Hong Kong.

Better yet, not a single commercial jetliner in existence today is capable of flying directly from Tarija to Hong Kong.
